S/Y Duende - Interior

Carbon Ocean Yachts launched a high-tech, lightweight cruising catamaran named Duende last spring with hulls of carbon-fiber/Corecell laminates and strong, lightweight interior furnishings that were custom built by Newport Yacht Builders. Equipped with a rotating carbon-fiber mast, curved, symmetric daggerboards and a pair of lifting rudders fitted with fixed wings, the 50-footer was designed by SDK Structures, a Rhode Island firm well known for its design and engineering work on America’s Cup boats and other elite-level sailing craft.

Helm station

Built with wood veneers and lightweight cores, the light-colored bunk faces hanging lockers and shelving is found throughout the four two cabins. The same high-tech paneling joinery continues across the front of the main saloon, which includes the forward, inside helm station with a stand-up nav station to starboard and step up to a walk-through companionway to the forward deck.

Main galley installation

On the starboard side of the main saloon is the piece de resistance, a full galley area that features as many curved cabinets as flat, along with sink, fridge, and induction stovetop. To port is a comfortable dining area with seating and table by the NYB team as well. A durable solid wood sole was installed in the saloon as well. Overall, we were privileged to contribute to the team building this unique catamaran!
