Custom Home Movie Theater & Game Room

Turning landside, Newport Yacht Builders had the privilege to collaborate with renowned home builder Kirby Perkins, Langan Design Partners and Taste Design on this unique home theater project situated on the lower level of a beautiful shoreside dwelling in Southern New England. We scanned the existing basement space to precisely fit the designers’ vision, and then to fabricate, finish, and install the ship-like components of the design. Our scope of work expanded into engineering and constructing a soundproofing envelope for the space, as well as the exterior “yacht” wall and the rest of the adjoining game room and galley bar. From the extraordinary “candy bar” at the theater entrance to the unique Langan Design “flourishes” inscribed in the deck beams, from the hidden game room closet for billiards equipment to the nine swiveling stools, the project challenged our own designers and craftsmen, and it was a pleasure to join with our partners in this creative process.

Doors and windows open to an expansive game room and galley area, and a glimpse of the nearby Bay.

The upper level of the theater includes a candy bar par excellence and quiet area to relax adjacent to the game room.

Yacht-style flourishes abound.

The table and bar are finished in similar fashion to those in a yacht saloon.

A yacht-like wall separates the theater from the well-appointed galley.

Beyond the pool table, the theater entrance and the candy bar beckons.

The “yacht wall” outside the theater contains its own surprises, like the built-in closet for billiards equipment.

A fuller perspective of the game room and galley.

A pair of backless stools sit across the game room from the galley counter.
