Press Release: Introducing “Disruptor” - Downeast-style Mussel Ridge 46
NEWPORT, RI (November 6, 2023)—Newport Yacht Builders announces the launch of its second custom Mussel Ridge design, a Downeast-style 46-foot tuna fishing boat built with the company’s rapid and highly accurate design-and-build techniques. The company delivered Disruptor to its new owner a mere 18 months after the contract was signed and 12 months after the hull (built at Hutchinson Composite) arrived at Newport Yacht Builders’ production facility off J.T. Connell Highway in Newport. Disruptor is the largest custom yacht built in Rhode Island since 2021 when Newport Yacht Builders launched PrettiRose (54') and constructed the interior of Penmanship (72'), launched by Aquidneck Custom Composites in Bristol.
“The boat has exceeded our own high expectations,” said Jim Thompson, partner and production chief at Newport Yacht Builders, “first as a capable and successful fishing vessel and second as proof of our process using digital scan, design, and CNC cutting as a basis for production that truly allows us to do custom builds with the efficiencies of a production builder.”
